About the author
Cecelia Ahern was born and grew up in Dublin. She is now published in nearly fifty countries, and has sold over twenty-four million copies of her novels worldwide. Two of her books have been adapted as films and she has created several TV series. She and her books have won numerous awards, including the Irish Book Award for Popular Fiction for The Year I Met You. The Marble Collector is her twelfth novel.

Cecelia Ahern im Interview: „Ich habe es genossen, dieses Buch zu schreiben. Ich mag meinen Protagonisten, einen Mann in seinen Sechzigern, weil er so anders ist als alles, was ich davor geschrieben habe. Es ist eine Vater-Tochter-Geschichte und hebt sich von meinen früheren Büchern ab, weil sie so ungewöhnlich und überraschend ist. Ich habe mich an der Story so richtig festgebissen und viel über Glasmurmeln gelernt. Ein Glaskünstler hat mir gezeigt, wie sie hergestellt werden und ich bin in eine andere Welt eingetaucht.
Es ist eine dieser Geschichten, von der mir viele Männer erzählen, dass sie sie gelesen haben. Für mich war das so etwas wie ein Paradigmenwechsel, weil das Cover nicht besonders feminin war, worüber ich sehr froh bin. Es war nicht geschlechtsspezifisch und so konnte jede und jeder das Buch kaufen. Manche Leute denken, dass ich nur total romantische Lovestorys schreibe.
Ausserdem musste ich die Hälfte des Buchs noch mal umschreiben. Die Originalversion war sehr bizarr und ich erinnere mich, dass ich zu meinem Mann sagte, dass es dem Verlag garantiert nicht gefallen wird. Und ich hatte zur Hälfte recht. Meine Lektoren sagten, dass ihnen nur die Hälfte gefällt. Komischerweise war es die Geschichte des Vaters, die ihnen gefiel, während sie Geschichte der Tochter nicht gut fanden – obwohl die Tochter in meinem Alter war. Aber auch mir hat der Vater besser gefallen.“
