understanding the technological trends of the 21st century
This book is a must to understand one of the major trends of the 21st century: machine learning.
It is explaining the state of the art of machine learning and how much machine learning is affecting, changing, remodelling our daily life.
It gave a good overview of the different tribes working on machine learning: connectionist, evolutionist, baysan, symbolist, analogist.
All these tribes are working with one type of algorithm.... the goal of Pedro Domingos: trying to find, to discover the Master algorithm which will
in a way gather all these tribes.
The book is very well written, avoiding too much jargon and can be understood by anybody interesting in the fields.
Last but not least, an extract of the book for you to understand the paradigmatic change of the 21st century:
"In the first stage of information age computers
had to be programmed by us, in each case (playing chess, go etc....) someone had to explain to the computer what to do in details, a programmer had to write an algorithm with steps by steps instruction to accomplish the desire task, it was slow, expensive.
