«Grace James (1864 – 1930) was an English writer, who is best known as the author of adventure stories for children. Grown up in Japan, Grace James was considered in her time and still remains nowadays as one of the most famous collectors and re-tellers of stories from the Japanese folk tradition. Her tales and short stories have been collected from many sources, among which are the Book of Record of Ancient Matters, mythology of Japan and oral folk arts. Indeed, some of the stories include the author’s personal impressions and her memoirs about upbringing in Japan.
