Weird N.J. Presents: Nightshade on the Passaic

For two years Weird NJ correspondent, Wheeler Antabanez explored the Passaic River by motorized canoe.  Wheeler’s mission was simple: To find any and all weirdness, take tons of pictures and capture the experience in words for Weird NJ magazine. 

 

Contained are groundbreaking accounts of urban exploration in Northern New Jersey, told as an adventure story. You’ll feel like you’re out there with Wheeler on the water in in his boat, and sometimes the scenery is not pretty.

 

Nightshade, a fifteen-foot fiberglass canoe equipped with a three horsepower motor has taken Wheeler the entire length of the river.  Along the way he has explored abandoned buildings, sunken ships, discarded burial vaults and has been confronted with pollution on a massive scale.  From under the Pulaski Skyway in in South Kearny, to the sublime headwaters of the Great Swamp, Wheeler has uncovered a plethora of weirdness that is best described in his own words.
