Ben Hur

Written in 1880 this book was made into an epic film in 1959 starring Charlton Heston. The plot is that of a Jewish prince who is sent into slavery by a Roman childhood friend for refusing to betray his Jewish friends. His mother and sister are sent to a leper colony, where he later frees them from. Has a strong religious base with plenty of action.
