Publisher Description

Gaetano Martino was an unemployed longshoreman whose first scrape with the law occurred in 1928. The incident, a jewelry theft, happened in Manhattan. The 1940 U.S. Census says that Martino was unemployed for twenty-four years. In 1928 his wife, Josephine, and three children lived with him in Brooklyn. Police investigators found the family without food when they went looking for Martino. They gave Josephine $10 in bills and currency. Gaetano aka Tom Long appears on lists of Genovese soldiers in the 1960s and 1970s. Martino's later years are vague.
