About the Book



Would you like to know God more deeply?


Do you want to “go and make disciples of all nations” but aren’t sure how to begin? Do you have people who you pray for but can’t speak to about spiritual things without feeling unqualified or judgmental? Salt & Light: Everyday Discipleship is designed to help people who want to share the hope and love of Christ with others in a more fruitful way. It promotes disciple making as a lifestyle that is intentional, yet disarming, by equipping believers to initiate spiritual conversations and share the Gospel, Bible stories, or personal testimonies fluently. The authors read and studied numerous church planting, disciple making, and orality movement books, videos, blogs, websites, and podcasts before writing the study. They prayerfully created resources that bring people to Christ and make disciples in a small group format, training them to fulfill the Great Commission with oral strategies.

About the Authors

Chris Scruggs is the senior pastor of Advent Presbyterian Church in Cordova, Tennessee. Before becoming a pastor, he practiced law in Houston, Texas, leading Bible studies at home, at church, and at work. He earned the following degrees: BA Philosophy from Trinity University, San Antonio; JD from University of Texas Law School at Austin; M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary Richmond, Virginia; and D.Min. from Asbury Theological Seminary Wilmore, Kentucky. Chris is married to Kathy and they have four grown children. He previously authored Centered Living/Centered Leading: The Way of Light and Love and Path of Life. He serves on the board of trustees for The Outreach Foundation.


Kathy Scruggs is surprised to be co-authoring this project with her husband, Chris, and is grateful for the opportunity to share some “God stories” from her life. She speaks Spanish and Italian and has worked as a teacher and health-care interpreter, finding many opportunities to share the love of Jesus at home and abroad through song, dance, storytelling, and other creative expressions. She earned the following degrees in Spanish: BA from The University of Texas at Austin; MA from University of Memphis. In 2003 she published ¡Español con Señora Scruggs!, a book of songs accompanied by an award-winning CD that she recorded in Spanish. Kathy is an intercessor for World Outreach of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
