Xenophon was a Greek Soldier, Mercenary, Philosopher and Historian, and a student of Socrates. Born near Athens, Xenophon lived an eventful life, in which he fought for the armies of Sparta against the vast forces of Persia. He tells the famous story of "The Ten Thousand" in "Anabasis" - the first book of this complete Anthology.
