Wonder, Tinker, Test

Every inventor was once a curious kid. A kid who asked questions, just like you.

This nonfiction picture book celebrates the flops, failures, and super solutions of nine young inventors who grew up to change the world.

Meet nine inventors who as children wondered, tinkered, and tested. They asked questions, built contraptions, and tested prototypes, often with hilarious or groundbreaking results.

Young Isaac Newton added a candle to his kite. UH-OH! Falling flames!Young Temple Grandin tied string to everything. OOPS! Her mother got all tangled up.Young David Aguilar tested out LEGO parts. TA-DAA! He invented a new hand.
Sidebars reveal what these kids achieved when they grew up. (Some are still children!) Notes from the author and illustrator encourage young readers to “make messes” with joy and confidence.

In this companion book to What’s in Your Pocket? Discovering Treasures in Nature, master teacher Heather Montgomery shows how the mess makers of today can grow up to become the engineers and inventors of tomorrow.
