This poem without author's name and without title, of uncertain date (7th century?), is the oldest long poetic text, written in a European vernacular, the only complete epic of ancient Germanic literature, one of the main texts of literature Anglo-Saxon, poem dedicated to a mythical theme: the fight between a man and a monster. In just over three thousand verses, the poem recounts the strenuous struggle of a young man named Beowulf with a dragon, intersecting elements of myth, fable, heroic legends and documented and dated historical facts.
