Descripción editorial

With the passing of a century since the publishing in 1914 of “Betas of Achievement” by William Raimond Baird, Stevens 1878/Columbia 1882, this sequel presumes to update and expand upon that significant volume. Whether this work measures up is left to the endorsement of today’s readers.

Including the achievements of more than 5,000 Betas who hail from some 160 different chapters, “Betas of Achievement II” is more than just a chronicling of great Betas in the fields of medicine, education, business, politics and sports (and 12 other categories). It is a source of inspiration reminding all who read it that Beta Theta Pi is an incredibly well-rounded organization, and the lives of its members are grounded in the best that humanity has to offer.

As with three compatible volumes by this author — “Beta Statesmen,” “Beta Heroes” and “Betas in the Arts” — much has been included, even more has been left out.

Yet, even today the Fraternity takes pride in having established herself as #1 in grade point average, #1 in average chapter size and #1 in foundation performance compared with all other collegiate Greek organizations.

Indeed, as The Beta Theta Pi announced in May 1950 and again in 1967, the Fraternity listed more members in Who’s Who than any other college fraternity. Such could never have been achieved then or now without the many contributions by Betas of achievement.
