Three Times in a Row

If you’ve heard of ‘The World’s Fastest Indian’ a film about a New Zealand pioneer of land speed records, then you won’t want to miss this book on another New Zealand salt flats racer Bill Ward. Set in the last week in September of 1979, Kiwi Bill Ward and many other contestants arrived towing, driving or carrying their various class of vehicle or motorcycle, with but one thought in mind - to take home a record or at least give it the best shot possible. Very few men in their lifetimes will ever know the opportunity, the thrill and the elation of a full throttle run down the long black line on the white salt flats of Utah. Those men who have assaulted the records – with either production, modified, full streamliner or jet cars - will cherish the moments and relive the runs all their lives. Each man makes his try - not for glory, not for money, but to prove to himself that through his ingenuity, unlimited to things mechanical and innumerable hours of toil, he may bring home a trophy which may be his for only one year and then passed on to another competitor.
