A Look Inside

“With regard to the work itself, I dare not venture a judgment, for I do not understand it.”
― James Hogg, The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner

About the Book
The narrative of a young Calvinist boy corrupted by an unknown man and leading a string of murders while under his charge is told in this early eighteenth-century Scottish book. The stranger assures the child that an elect person's salvation cannot be jeopardized by any transgression. The visitor is identified as Satan, but the way the book is written keeps the reader from concluding whether or not the man is more than just the boy's fantasy, despite his vividness and comedy.
