The World Set Free

Atomic energy is released in 1933, the cities go up in fire, and what survives has to build a government or die. Wells wrote it in 1913, coined the phrase atomic bomb in it, and got the chain reaction from a book by Soddy; Leo Szilard read the novel and said afterwards that it put the idea into his head.
