Is there a reason that Ryder acts exactly like my best friend's vampire boyfriend?

Could it be that he's a vampire, too?

Ryder is the one person who scares me more than anyone else.

I'm not supposed to fall for the villain. The bad guys of the stories aren't supposed to be the heroes, too.

So what happens when Ryder is absolutely, definitely the hero?
