We swooned for Nalini Singh's strong but gentle alpha hero, Valentin Nikolaev, who woos his heroine carefully and respectfully. When emotionless Psy Silver Mercant is poisoned, bear-shifter Valentin takes over her protection—and finds himself falling for a woman who (supposedly) is incapable of loving him back. Silver Silence is the perfect starting point for readers looking to enter Singh's richly imagined science-fiction world without having read her previous 15 novels, but it will appeal to the series' longtime fans too.
