Publisher Description

The prophetic call of a modern fool for Christ.

Catherine adapts the predominately-Russian concept of holy foolishness to today’s world and invites us to make God our security and to take risks in serving him in our neighbor.
Description:

“We are asked to imitate Jesus Christ. Can you imagine anything more foolish than hanging on a cross? Is anything more foolish than spending years as a carpenter when you are God? Is anything more foolish than spending your time talking with ordinary people, when ‘the world is your oyster’ for you created it? What God said to St. Francis is, ‘Be like me.’ Anything and everything we do must be approached with the foolishness of God…. This involves the folly of the cross.”

Inspired by her Russian upbringing and the words of St. Paul, Catherine Doherty expresses her calling to this aspect of Russian spirituality, and calls readers to become fools for Christ, even as he became a fool for our sake. This may mean becoming one of the despised, poor, rejected—as Christ was. Holy fools overcome fear of ridicule and the other kinds of suffering which often result from speaking the truth with love, and thus are able to draw others to God.

“God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom.” — 1 Cor 1:25
