Publisher Description

One by one the boys begin to fall..

In 1914 a room full of German schoolboys, fresh-faced and idealistic, are goaded by their schoolmaster to

troop off to the 'glorious war'. With the fire and patriotism of youth they sign up. What follows is the moving

story of a young 'unknown soldier' experiencing the horror and disillusionment of life in the trenches.

All Quiet on the Western Front (German: Im Westen nichts Neues, lit. 'Nothing New in the West') is a novel by Erich Maria Remarque, a German veteran of World War I. The book describes the German soldiers' extreme physical and mental stress during the war, and the detachment from civilian life felt by many of these soldiers upon returning home from the front.

The novel was first published in November and December 1928 in the German newspaper Vossische Zeitung and in book form in late January 1929. The book and its sequel, The Road Back (1930), were among the books banned and burned in Nazi Germany. All Quiet on the Western Front sold 2.5 million copies in 22 languages in its first 18 months in print.

In 1930, the book was adapted as an Academy-Award-winning film of the same name, directed by Lewis

Milestone. It was adapted again in 1979 by Delbert Mann, this time as a television film starring Richard Thomas and Ernest Borgnine.

Amrevyy ,

Heart? Absolutely crushed.

I had watched the movie before I read the book, so I was pretty surprised (and confused) when the book was completely different.
But anyway, it took my heart and shattered it to a million pieces, mostly towards the end.
I had expected most of the deaths (because of the movie) and because of this, I thought I wouldn’t cry when the deaths really did happen but oh how wrong I was.
❗️spoilers❗️

When Kat died I cried like a baby, same with Paul. I’m not a slow reader, at least I would not consider myself as a one but this book did took me a lot of time to get through and during the process of reading it, I had grown so used to the characters that their deaths hit me like a truck.

❗️end of spoilers ❗️

This truly is a masterpiece and a must read, so go check it out. :-)
