The early line-up quickly changed following rifts, first between co-founder Win Butler and Myles Broscoe, then between Butler and Brendan Reed. Broscoe and Reed departed and the ensemble that finally signed with Merge Records discovered strength and creativity. Arcade Fire’s sensational 2004 debut album Funeral launched the alternative indie band on an international career that has seen it carve a successful niche in contemporary rock.
