Ollie Thomas Moye, a veteran journalist and former president of the

South Carolina Press Association, began his career as a writer while

an 11th grader at Boys High of Anderson, S.C. After graduating from

high school, he continued writing sports for the morning paper until,

at age 19, he became sports editor of the afternoon newspaper in

Anderson. During that brief position, he traveled with the Clemson

(S.C.) Tigers when covering road games.

While still age 19, he moved to Newberry, S.C., as feature/editorial

writer for The Newberry (S.C.) Observer. When this newspaper

was bought in1979 by the former State-Record Corp. of Columbia,

S.C., he was named vice president, editor and operational offi cer.

When this newspaper was bought in 1986 by Knight-Ridder, Moye

remained in that position until his retirement in 1996. Following his

retirement, he worked 10 years out of his house as a feature writer for

the Lake Murray News, a weekly which circulates around the 650-

mile shoreline of this lake.

Moye has authored one other book, ‘Daddy, Tell Them We Don’t

Shoot Bambi,’ a hunter’s story.

He is married to the former Alicia Bonds and they reside on Lake

Murray, considered the jewel of South Carolina. They have two sons

and two grandsons.
