Summer at Breakwater

I'd come to Breakwater for a summer of my own. My family seemed to have missed that part.

After leaving Neil, I finally moved into the seaside cottage I'd spent years renting to other people. I wanted to swim when I felt like it and enjoy a morning without discussing anyone else's plans.

Mom arrived with my sister and niece before I'd properly unpacked.

Apparently, having a spare room made me available for an extended family vacation.

Except I'd already accepted an invitation from a neighbor. The women at Breakwater had room for me at their table, and I was enjoying getting to know them. Canceling every time my family needed something was hardly going to help.

I loved having everyone there. I also wanted to go out without arranging lunch for the people staying behind.

Explaining that to my mother might take longer than learning to live alone.
