But every silver lining has its clouds, right? Dr. Amy Lee, Tyren's boss, grants Rose a no-questions-asked job at her genetics company, then thrashes the girl mercilessly for potentially catastrophic errors.

More clouds? Despite venting five years of pent-up anger in Tyren's willing ear, they're growing closer. Given her bloody history with the state's punitive laws, however, a 'normal' relationship will never be possible.

Troubles heaped on troubles? If it wasn't for that gnawing discomfort of avoidance, it might be easier to forget this new life and return to the couch.
