Luke A. Heslop traces the construction, habitation, and eventual decline of the family’s houses, showing how these spaces are both physical structures as well as sites of care, negotiation, conflict, and moral work.

Set against the backdrop of Sri Lanka’s civil war, postwar authoritarianism, and economic crises, the ethnography captures how ordinary families navigate opportunity, obligation, and uncertainty.
