A Secret Inheritance

A Secret Inheritance begins as a mystery of bloodlines, buried grief, and the shock of long-delayed revelation. Through Gabriel Carew's own recollections, B. L. Farjeon traces a lonely London childhood in a cramped attic home, where poverty, silence, and the stern presence of Mrs. Fortress seem to conceal some deeper family sorrow. When a letter announces a wealthy inheritance from a forgotten relative, Gabriel is drawn into a world of sudden change, while an encounter with a lame girl and a ragged, strangely refined stranger hints at lost gentility and hidden moral complexity. As Gabriel grows older, the death of his father deepens the sense of estrangement and mystery surrounding his family. The novel then widens into a second thread of suspense, as Kristel leads the narrator and Silvain on a secretive journey through Bavaria and into a remote fishing village on the southwest coast of France. There, amid storms, sea air, and hard-won coastal life, they are brought by boat to a lighthouse where Avicia appears, her scarlet head covering stirring instant recognition. The meeting feels fated, charged with love, memory, and the fulfillment of a long-held secret. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.
