I have received some inquiries specific to changes in APN prescriptive authority from individual APNs. Some feel that the changes have come up quickly, when the truth is that many of the changes have been in process for over a year and a half, if not longer. It is also important to note that Colorado Nurses Association wanted changes away from collaborative agreements to be implemented in a timely manner. On July 1, 2010, the new requirements for APNs-under the Chapter XIV and Chapter XV Rules become effective. This also marks the transition point away from the older collaborative agreements to the newer articulated plan model. Please make sure you read the Board of Nursing Report in this edition if you are an APN. Resources are identified for APNs wanting sample articulated plan templates or more specific information on the requirements. Colorado Nurses Association and the Nurse Physician Advisory Task Force for Colorado Health Care are two organizations that have submitted sample templates for use by APNs.
