With the System in the iron grip of the Council's new Prime Designate, Noemi and her team flee to the far reaches of the Outer Zone, where rumors of a long-lost base offer their only chance at survival.

As the Council Forces Fleet hunts them down, more spacers rally to their cause. And when their base is discovered, the rebels must defend themselves using whatever weapons they can scrounge—including their armored cargo mechs and an ancient, derelict spaceship.

Soon the battle lines are drawn, pitting rebel spacers against trained CFF marines. If they manage to survive, they'll have to face the far-off—and far more dangerous—rulers of the Imperial Core. Because it turns out that the Aquitania System holds something far more valuable than anyone ever imagined, and when the secret gets out, everyone in the Empire will want it.
