Bangkok 1989

In 1988 I made my first trip to Bangkok for the sole purpose of capturing its street life.  This was part of a three leg trip that would take me to Manila, Bangkok and then finally India – where I would visit several places.


I had no idea what to expect. Had not even read any books about Bangkok, as I wanted to approach it with a fresh pair of eyes rather than with any preconceived idea. The only preparation had been that I arrived from Manila, and had been told that the two cities shared characteristics. 


One of these was the joy of people who lived with for much of the time on the streets of the capital.  They shared optimism despite their circumstances. 


And this I hope I have captured.
