A different View
Das Buch elbt davon, daß es im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen römischen Romanen nicht die Sicht der italischen Legionäre oder Noblen zeigt sondern eine Geschichte von der Grenzregion des Imperiums und der Familie eines Auxilliars. Die Zerrissenheit zwischen der Loyalität gegenber dem Reich auf der einen und dem Stamm auf der anderen.
Leider nicht übermäßig lang, der Rahmen läßt Luft für weitere Geschichten von dort.
Für Engländer sogar etwas familiärer, da Vindolanda ein nicht unbekannter Teil der britischen Geschichte ist.
