Young Malinda Mansfield evolves from old wealth. As she is financially secure after graduation, and since Gramma has those awful aging pains, Linn decides that her real course in life is to help the plight of the disabled and aged.

Using Gramma's influence she lands a position at GAPE, the General Agency for the Protection of the Elderly, actually controlled, in essence, by Gramma..

Wearing designer clothes, she immediately begins to personally update the budget-poor office, recruit young clerk Roxie to be her "assistant", and attack the many inconsistencies she finds at one the retirement home. With help from the "Lowers" at the home, she finds very much wrong.
