Born in Crime is a horrifying historical fiction novel based on true events, facts and happenings from World War II. A story that has been concealed and hidden for more than 70 years which I found out from my grandparents, who shared it with me in detail.  A story about the first stage of the Holocaust and the fate of Jewish families in the village of Bulanesti, Bessarabia, Romania.

It is the summer of 1941. The war has started. The Wehrmacht and the Romanian Royal Army are rapidly advancing. What is next? The Jews of Burlanesti village wake up to an imminent threat. Now the only concern is to save their own lives. Little Itzic still believes in miracles. He believes that even beasts can be tamed when there is faith. This is what his mother has always been telling him. But what final effect to expect? In an atmosphere of horror, every Jewish family seeks for a last resort. At the same time, in secret, the soldiers have already prepared their evil plan. The countdown had started. The dice have been rolled. What would happen to the innocent lives of the Jews in the small village of Burlanesti, where, apparently, peace was to reign forever and ever? But, above all, what does love and sacrifice mean? What does it mean not to betray one's family, relatives, principles, and values at the cost of one's own life, even when deprived of any power and help?

It is a book that reveals the absurd brutality, the unleashing of base instincts, in the first days of the war. On the other hand, it is a book showing genuine characters that would always fight for the right cause even when everyone is against them.
