Broken Hearts, Broken Bodies

Friday night rolls around, and Cedar Falls waits in suspense. Will the Basher strike again? The death count rises every weekend after a serial killer attacks and mercilessly beats more young women. On their broken bodies, detectives find a red paper valentine ripped in two. Detective Mahoney’s frustration grows. He can’t profile the victims or find a connection between them. An idea by the narrator begins unraveling the trail to the identity of the assailant. Identity, however, isn’t enough. Mahoney needs evidence to end the Basher’s spree. To get it means putting his wife in jeopardy.
