Buidling Trust: Overtures - Not Arrows

As the world gets faster and more complex …  it’s all about trust.   John’s new “one chapter book” explores both the origins of trust and, more importantly,  the practical building blocks of trust.   He outlines, in particular:  (1) the promise; (2) establishing rapport; (3)  winning respect; (4) actions guided by shared values; and (5) moving from cooperation to collaboration.   

 

Trust is the constant in change, the imperative in integrity, the engine of engagement and the chemistry of collaboration.  And that’s just the opening act.  Imagine these scenarios.  Executives in a newly minted software business are working on a “joint venture” with a like business based in Europe.  A serious software issue has arisen with a major customer; software that is, in part, delivered by a third party.  A highly successful not-for-profit organization has been asked to replicate what they do with others in the same field.  A fast track bio-tech firm is about to form a partnership with one of the drug giants.  A new CEO seeks to change the way the organization operates to accommodate the reality of gig employment.  A major law firm, with a sterling reputation, is about to outsource much of its research capability to India. What each of these scenes have in common isn’t simply that the potential synergies can build extraordinary value but that each succeeds or fails based on what, for many, is a rather nebulous issue: trust.
