Otýlie Foldynová embodies the strange and the beautiful, a heart holding both the cosmopolitan mystique of Prague and the quiet, rustic life of Liškov. One evening, while finishing a shift at the local tavern, she encounters someone from a forgotten past: Mikuláš Vyvý, recently returned from the U.S., bringing with him unsettling times and a restless heart. Despite her instincts for caution and the uneasy impression the pianist leaves on her circle, Otýlie is drawn to his unsettling presence.
