CASCADE - The Mission

Viennese physician Daniel Ahrens, a former cryotechnology specialist, is appointed head of the medical team aboard the PRIMAVERA, an antimatter-powered interstellar spacecraft controlled by an AI in lunar orbit.
With Vienna’s Schwechat Airport occupied, Ahrens must cross enemy territory to reach Moscow via Zurich - headquarters of the World Space Agency. GOD’S FRONT begins deploying nuclear bombs. In a radiation-proof bus, Ahrens is taken to China. From there, he crosses the Atlantic in a space capsule and, via Panama, finally reaches Kourou.
Time is running out: the launch of PRIMAVERA cannot be delayed, as the optimal Mars position for its swing-by trajectory is fixed. Gangs, murderers, and corrupt military officers cross Ahrens’s path. Pursued and exhausted, he reaches the starship at the last second.
On board, he meets Ilona Patani again - a brilliant neurologist with whom he developed the cryosleep dream technology: during the voyage, passengers live imagined lives in self-chosen past eras and will experience their awakening 180 years later as a kind of rebirth.
2,999 astronauts embark on the journey to an Earth-like planet in the Lemtow 642 system, 36 light-years away. Ahrens is the last to enter his cryo-pod. He chooses the 18th century and names the AI Madame Tussaud.
