Characters on Wheels

Rex Thompson provides a humorous account of the years he spent as the developer and manager of a deluxe mobile home park at Laguna Beach, California in the 1950s. Incidents in the lives of these beachcombing “trailerists” will bring a chuckle to all, such as when he decides to cut corners on the budget to be his own jack-of-all-trades; “rescuing” a rotund resident from a bath tub; making introductions among new “characters”; and a trailer on the loose.


The characters who live in his park are practical jokers, social butterflies, and happy-go-lucky souls who live for their potluck dinners, luaus, and fish frys, even establishing their own local trailer-park government.


Thompson’s is an honest view of his and his wife’s sweat equity and the challenges he faces to keep the park going, like when he gets fleeced on a business opportunity with a Las Vegas syndicate.
