Charlie's Place

Set in the early 1990's, Charlie's Place is a thriving, modern truckstop on the south coast of England, with parking for over 100 trucks and entertainment six nights a week. All built from the proceeds of a lifetime's criminality by owner, Charlie Wheeler. But life is finally catching up with Charlie. The taxman is hot on his heels and a lengthy prison sentence is staring him in the face.

Charlie plans to do a runner, secretly plotting to sell the truckstop to a local entrepreneur for mega bucks and flee to a life of luxury in the sun. The first his family will know about it will be a postcard from Spain.

His dysfunctional family is the truckstop's oppressed workforce. His wife, Carol, has turned to the Lord to help her through a stressful marriage and two arsy kids. Debbie, his eldest daughter, has turned to men to seek the love she's never had. And eighteen-year-old Penny turns to her first love, Killer, and discovers a new world.

When a proposed by-pass threatens to close the truckstop and put an end to the deal, Charlie quickly discovers his green credentials, and, with Penny and Killer's help, recruits a motley crew of eco-warriors to stop the by-pass. Descending on the truckstop, the warriors bring sex, drugs and rock'n'roll to the quiet English countryside. Along with the world's media.
