A group of small unassuming daisies (Euchiton) is being investigated as there is confusion surrounding the differences between species. This project is investigating whether some plants in New Zealand and Australia are the same species or not and what the evolutionary relationships are in Euchiton. A background to the field of Systematic Botany is given, including a brief discussion of cladistics, an analytical method used to analyse the evolution of groups. The implications of this work and field for the broader community are outlined. INTRODUCTION
