INTRODUCTION The British HIV Association Guidelines for the Treatment of HIV-1-Infected Adults with Antiretroviral Therapy have recently been updated (www.bhiva.org/cms1221367.asp) [1]. Those from the International AIDS Society-USA will be released shortly (www.iasusa.org/guidelines/index.html) and the DHHS guidelines in the United States are revised every 3 months (www.aidsinfo.nih.gov/Guidelines). In this edition of the Journal of HIV Therapy, we examine recent information on the drug classes used to treat HIV infection and the purpose of this editorial is to review some of the controversies in the present guidelines.
