PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In her first cookbook, food blogger Porta (Pip and Ebby) compiles more than 75 recipes that reimagine the basic cookie. While this book was written with the beginner baker in mind, bakers of all levels will take great delight in these straightforward yet unexpected recipes, such as Moscow mule cookies prepared with a lime glaze, molten lava cake cookies stuffed with hot fudge, and cinnamon French toast cookies topped with vanilla-maple frosting. Porta also includes recipes for cookies with more familiar flavors, such as red velvet cake cookies spread with vanilla-almond frosting, turtle cake cookies topped with chocolate caramel glaze, and peanut butter cup cookies. Her bubbly personality is felt throughout the book in stories about her friends and family that are amusing and add to the spirit of the recipes. In addition to suggestions for ingredient substitutions written alongside individual recipes, the book concludes with a resources section that gives useful tips covering kitchen tools, ingredients, quick fixes, and cookie storage. This book offers a creative collection of recipes that will motivate readers to bake beyond the mere chocolate chip cookie.
