Inspector Linda Drake is the SFPD's female version of "Dirty Harry." She has faced down gang leaders armed with Saturday night specials and contract killers carrying high-powered rifles. But nothing prepares her for this case. In spite of a witness who draws a perfect likeness of the killer, there are just a few snags. First, Jackson Cleary is a decorated war hero and self-made millionaire with friends so high on the social registry it gives her nosebleed. Second, Cleary has an air-tight alibi. Third, her witness is a gorgeous Southern lothario who drives her crazy by brushing off attempts on his life. She becomes his bodyguard, but how can she guard his body when she can't seem to keep her hands off of it?

 

AN ARROGANT EYE WITNESS

Graham Kley is a renowned New Orleans portrait artist who comes to the city of flower children and almost ends up with lilies on his chest. When a boldly beautiful cop is assigned to protect him, he informs her that where he comes from, "men protect women—women do not protect men." He is amused and exasperated when she orders him around, and delights in enraging her when he inserts himself into her investigation. She is determined to keep him alive. He is determined to get her into bed. But Gray's amusement turns to fury when not only he but Linda becomes a target for the killer.

Jackson Cleary loves fine art, fine wine and fine weapons. But above all, he loves the thrill he gets from his lethal games of cat and mouse. He toys with the cop and the artist, relishing the fact that they know he is the killer and that he is untouchable.
