Death by Trapeze

Mother knows best. Unfortunately, Mother sees dead people.

Dallas, Texas — October 1925

In her time as a detective, Penelope van Kessler has encountered her share of peculiar people, but Jack Bentley's mother might just take the prize. Martha Bentley fancies herself a clairvoyant, considers Penelope entirely unworthy of her darling son, and has just predicted a murder at the State Fair of Texas.

The "victim" is Judy Skye, a daring trapeze artist who is still very much alive. But Martha insists her prediction is deadly accurate.

With October rain dampening the fairgrounds, Penelope finds herself investigating a murder that hasn't happened. Yet. Unfortunately, questioning a colorful collection of circus performers and eccentric fairground vendors about a hypothetical homicide is about as productive as asking Martha for her blessing.

Can Penelope outwit a clever puppet master before Martha's vision proves correct? Or is Judy Skye destined to take her final flight?
