Elle Kebbel manages to escape a neurotic serial killer. Now every day is spent trying to forget her time in captivity. But until the serial killer is caught, her life will never go back to normal. When U.S Marshall, Baxter Formen is assigned to keep her safe, Elle knows she should be relieved, but her ability to trust is non-existent. Baxter Formen whisks Elle Kebbel away to a safe house to keep her attacker at bay. It’s his job to keep her alive as the only living witness to his crimes. Elle seems intent on fighting him every step of the way. He has to convince her that he’s not the enemy because her safety depends on it. While he admires her strength and sass, he knows he has to channel it, or they’ll be in jeopardy. As they spend time sequestered together, her walls start to come down.
