Direwitch

The direwitch Lienne is content with her simple life on the distant world of Elysion, selling herbs and burning the occasional miscreant with mistfire. Until her symbiote, the source of her powers, compels her to embark on a dangerous journey with an unlikely crew of companions. 

This mismatched band includes a sister witch whose life philosophy is the opposite of Lienne's; a young trans man seeking the magic that can transform his body; a vampire interested only in wealth; and an accidental abductee from Earth, who is desperate to get home to his boyfriend and his dog.

They are stalked by an incorporeal intelligence, originating deep within the planet, that uses human bodies as its puppets. World Heart wants all of them, but it has a particular interest in Lienne, whose powers could greatly advance its quest to subsume the human race. Yet the greatest threat the witches face comes from within the ranks of their own sisterhood.
