Egypt, 1977

Forty years ago I visited an Egypt that was very different from now. I kept a diary and this along with images is reproduced here. In many ways 1977 was a more innocent time. Even though Egypt was still embroiled with the aftermath of conflicts with Israel, and while I was there a flare-up broke out with Libya, none the less the politics were still straightforward and the country was beginning to emerge as a more powerful economic force. I was a barely an adult when I arrived, and I found an Egypt that perhaps can no longer be experienced except in these pages. If you enjoy travel books, this is a must.
