England’s Hidden Reverse

England's Hidden Reverse is David Keenan's classic secret history of the esoteric underground: the story of the music which emerged in the fallout of bands like Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV. Based on several years' worth of exclusive interviews and unprecedented access to all three bands' personal archives, this remains the first, definitive, biography of Coil, Current 93 and Nurse With Wound.

Together, the bands represent the real English underground in all its sexual, cultural and artistic variety; a shadowy scene whose work accents peculiarities of Englishness through the links and affinities they've forged with earlier generations of outsiders. The three groups have maintained a symbiotic, yet uneasy relationship with the mainstream of pop culture. Through interviews and deep immersion in the scene and the world of the artists themselves, England's Hidden Reverse reveals an occult alternative reality as imagined by artists who refused to compromise and in the process created an extraordinary and sometimes unfathomable body of work.
