Escape From Poverty

My walk is strong and purposeful, not the stumbling shamble of a drug addict.. Since I show ready to defend, I don’t have to physically defend. Since I don’t show gang colors, but only dark shabby clothing, I present no threat to the pride of those who have only a bit of misplaced pride in their ‘home turf.’
I make my wary way to the back streets of a Bum Town gambling establishment. The front of the gambling place is patrolled by hoodlums who make sure that only those who have money to spend are allowed access.
I walk to an unlittered alleyway at the back of a gambling establishment. The alleyway is not patrolled by hoodlums, but rather by electronic means.
I switch on the electronic device that I wear and I enter the alleyway.

No, I didn’t just learn how to operate the commercial packages that most computer users work with. I learned how computers actually work. I learned the secrets of data transmission, of data encoding and of data security. I know things of real importance. However, as a poor boy, I don’t have the magic four year college degree that would buy me a comfortable life, in at least a middle class area. The fare for a middle class life is the completion of 60 college courses. I have 21 completed college courses, actually 22 completed college courses, if the final exam that I sent off at lunch time passes muster, as expected. My 22 completed college courses, plus the 10 completed college courses that my ‘life experience’ (read job) will earn me will gain me an Associates Degree and one more step up the stairway of a successful life. The good for nothing punk who had only a high school diploma this week will magically become a not quite good enough Associates Degree holder, with a nice increase in my salary.)
