Fear and Don't fear

Jordan was a rich kid. He spent most of his time amusing himself amongst the young, social elite of New England. University was merely an intellectual challenge. The sciences were something to do when he wasn't playing or partying. His father's money meant he could satisfy his whims and feed his ego with studies in physics and engineering. He could also entertain the society of the wealthy and coiffured with tales of his travel exploits. This all came to a sudden end when his father's financial support evaporated. He was now left to his own devices, haunted by the words of Dostoyevsky and humiliated by the rejection of a girl and being associated with the fraudulent business practices of his father. Science was no longer a diversion, it was now his key to survival.
