Nicky and her friends have found the portal that can help them escape the pursuit of the Blood Demons. But the portal closes before Max and Barker can make it through, leaving the pirate in the hands of a very angry Howling Wolf. Nicky's not doing much better as the world she's just walked into seems to have been at war for a long time and her group has no idea which side to choose.
