First Through the Grand Canyon

This first-person work tells the story of the Powell Geographic Expedition, the first known passage of European Americans through the Grand Canyon. In 1869, geologist John Wesley gathered nine men, four boats and enough food for 10 months. The group spent three months traveling down the Green and Colorado rivers. This book collects Powell's written accounts of the group's adventures, including selections from his diary.
