Flying High Above Paris Skies: The Life of Eugene Bullard chronicles the colorful and diverse life story of Eugene Bullard (1895–1961), the first black military pilot. Born in Columbus, Georgia, Bullard persevered and succeeded in various careers in spite of the racial discrimination he faced. This children’s book is an extension of a reading series about African American men and women from Columbus, Georgia, who achieved extraordinary accomplishments in their respective fields. As illustrator and writer of this children’s book, Dr. Obiora N. Anekwe integrates pictures and poetic words to tell the story of Eugene Bullard’s life story.
